The illustrations are hand painted and made according to an old
Asia traditional method for lacquer ware. Lacquer has a long tradition
in South East Asia and has been found in Vietnam in ancient tombs
dating as far back as the third century B.C.. In the Ly dynasty
(11th century) lacquer was widely used in the ornamentation of palaces,
communal halls, temples, pagodas and shrines.
The
lacquer used is made from the resins of the Rhus Succedanea Tree
that grows in Northern Vietnam . It is a very complex lacquer process,
and from start to end it takes about 70 to 110 days to finish one
illustration.
